The reaction of maleic acid, fumaric acid and / or maleic anhydride in the presence of N-acylated heterocyclic amidines at elevated temperatures leads to dimethyl maleic anhydride in good yields. Catalytic amounts of the amidines used are sufficient for the reaction. |
