titleOfInvention Biological specimen collection device
abstract 57 A biological specimen collection device (10) comprises a specimen receptacle (12) having a close first end (14) and an open second end (16). A removeable conduit (20, 21, 22) is provided for introducing a biological specimen into the receptacle (12) and is connected to the second end (16) of the repceptacle (12). A base (30) removably receives the first end (14) of the receptacles (12) and supports the receptacle (12) in a substantially vertical position. A cap (45) is removably connected to the base (30), this cap (45) adapted to provide a liquid seal between the cap (45) and the open second end (16) of the receptacle (12). The cap (45) is maintained in a protective environment during introduction of the biological specimen into the receptacle (12). Access is permitted to the cap (45) after the specimen has been collected for subsequently capping the open and (16) of the receptacle (12) with its contents.
