titleOfInvention | Anionic polymerization of cis-and trans-1,3-pentadiene from a mixture of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons |
abstract | 1,3-Pentadiene is polymerized in an inert gas atmosphere from a mixture of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbon molecules. At least 50% by weight of these molecules have 5 carbon atoms. An anionic polymerization initiator is used in combination with a polar organic solvent to effect the polymerization. Cyclopentadiene, active hydrogen compounds and other polymerization stopper compounds can be deactivated and separated from the mixture of hydrocarbon compounds before the start of polymerization. Alternatively, it is possible to avoid the deactivation and separation of cyclopentadiene, active hydrogen compounds and polymerization-stopping compounds, provided that the anionic polymerization initiator is used in an amount allowing to a) deactivate these compounds. and b) initiating the polymerization of 1,3-pentadiene. The 1,3-pentadiene polymer thus prepared is then hydrogenated or functionalized by a subsequent reaction. |
