Germicidal artifacts containing germicidally effective amounts of iodine are formed from a large amount of a fibrogenic component, for example regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate, a vinyl chloride copolymer, a copolymer of acrylonitrile or of crosslinked alginic acid, and of a lesser amount of an addition component capable of complexing iodine to a different degree of stability, preferably making it more solid, for example a pyrrolidone polyvinyl or starch. It is possible to use a protective layer that captures iodine to prevent its release into the atmosphere. |
