Liquid crystal cell capable of presenting a homeotropic structure, with birefringence compensated for this structure.n n n The cell comprises a liquid crystal layer (18) capable of having a homeotropic structure and electrodes (19a, 20a) which are located on either side of the layer and at least one of which is transparent. It further comprises means (21, 23, 22, 24) for compensating for the birefringence of the liquid crystal layer in its homeotropic structure, so that the cell has a high contrast for this structure, in the case of a oblique observation, carried out in a determined observation plane (P).n n n Application to the production of data display devices. |
