titleOfInvention | Weight scales and strain gauge assemblies useable therein |
abstract | A strain gauge assembly of the type having an elongated flexible member (12) to which strain gauges (36, 38) are attached receives forces applied at points (48, 50) spaced from its central neutral plane (52 ) by means comprising members mounted on a base (10) and a force receiving element (14) for a relative lateral non-sliding movement. In another embodiment, the strain gauges are attached to a flexible diagram (68) which is in communication with a fluid contained in a hermetically sealed flexible container (78) which a hollow restriction member (62) prevents from having lateral movement, but which has a portion (80) projecting from a lower open end (66) to receive a load and pressurize the fluid and cause the diaphragm (68) to flex. A balance suitable for using the strain gage assemblies described above has an electronic adder (91) which adds the charges of a plurality of strain gage assemblies (92) or load modules, to produce a load signal. total load which is applied to an electronic display (90) to provide a visual indication of weight. |
