abstract The invention relates to optically active, high molecular weight polymers with chiral centers in the main chain which contain structural elements of the general formula (I) <IMAGE>, in which R¹ is an optionally substituted C1 to C18 alkyl or C5 to C8 cycloalkyl radical and R² is an optionally substituted C1 to C18 alkyl or alkylene radical, C6 to C12 aryl or arylene radical or a C5 to C8 cycloalkyl or cycloalkylene radical. The polymers preferably have specific rotation values [αD <20>] in methylene chloride solution between -200 and + 200 ° and are used as a separation medium for the chromatographic separation of racemic mixtures into the corresponding optical antipodes.
