Defoamer for water dispersions and synthetic resin solutions |
abstract |
The formation of troublesome microfoams in aqueous lacquer and synthetic resin dispersions, especially in gloss lacquers, is prevented by adding 0.01 to 1.5% by weight of a silicone-free defoamer mixture. This defoamer mixture consists of (a) 70 to 98% by weight of a mineral oil which is liquid at room temperature and its mixtures with a branched alcohol of the formula having 16 to 30 carbon atoms in which R 'and R 2 represent alkyl radicals with 4 to 16 carbon atoms (b) 0.2 to 5% by weight of microcrystalline wax, (c) 0.5 to 20% by weight of hard paraffin and (d) 0.5 up to 5% by weight of hydrophobic finely divided silica. Component (a) preferably consists of a mixture of mineral oil and branched alcohol in a ratio of 50: 1 to 1: 1. |
