A glycidyl compound having the formula (I):n wherein Ar is a C 6 to C 20 aromatic hydrocarbon group having at least one glycidyloxy group, R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and n is an integer of 1 to 4. The glycidyl compound is prepared with good yield by addition-reacting a compound having the formula (II):n wherein Ar' is a C 6 to C 20 aromatic hydrocarbon group having at least one hydroxyl group, R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and n is an integer of 1 to 4 with an epihalohydrine, and then dehydrohalogenating the addition product with an alkali without substantial hydrolysis reaction of the amide groups. |
