The invention further relates to a process for the preparation of the monoesters of the formula I by reacting a mixture of the optical antipodes of celiprolol with a disubstituted (R, R) - or (S, S) -tartaric acid of the general formula HOOC-CH (OR) -CH (OR) -COOH II, in which R is as defined above, or with its anhydride and the separation of the diasteromer mixture obtained in the reaction into the optically pure esters of formula I, which are used as starting materials in the production of optically pure forms of celiprolol can be.
