Mineral particles are separated from solid carbonaceous fuel particles by forming a mixture with water, ferro-magnetic particles and hydrophobic oil at a weight ratio between the carbonaceous fuel and the magnetic particles of at least 25 : 1, by shearing to flocculate the carbonaceous fuel particles, then subjecting the product to magnetic separation. |
