The invention relates to a method for preparing catalysts and certain catalysts which can be obtained by this method. This method comprises: (a) the coprecipitation of Group VIII and Group VIB metal sulfides at pH maintained at a value of 4.5 to 8; (b) separating the precipitate; (c) drying it; and (d) calcining the dried precipitate; these various stages being carried out under an inert atmosphere. Catalysts having a stoichiometry of 1.2 to 2.2 sulfur atoms per metal atom, a crystallographic structure of molybdenite for group VIB metal sulfide and pyrite for group VIII metal sulfide and having a X-ray powder diffraction spectrum comprising at least the two main lines a and b of the disulfide of the metal of group VIB (lines a, b, c, d), and the two main lines f and j of the disulfide of the metal of the group VIII (lines e, f, g, h, i, j, k), the height of the main line of the group VIII metal monosulfide (1), when it is present, being less than 5 times that of the main line (f) disulfide of the same metal, are particularly active for all reactions between hydrogen and a mixture of hydrocarbons containing sulfur compounds. |
