titleOfInvention | Esterification of carboxylic acids containing phenol groups |
abstract | The process for the esterification of phenolic carboxylic acids is carried out using (C 1 -C 3 ) alcohols in the presence of acidic catalysts without simultaneous etherification of the phenolic hydroxyl groups. In this case, an excess of a water-containing (C 1 -C 31 alcohol) is continuously metered in at the boiling point to a solution or suspension of the carboxylic acid containing phenol groups and the catalyst in a water-immiscible solvent (for example xylene) and at the same time a ternary is distilled via a water separator Mix solvent / alcohol / water.n n n In the process, the metering rate is selected so that an aqueous lower phase separates out in the initial charge, and the water content of the alcohol is measured in such a way that it does not limit the limits of 0.1% downwards and 1% upwards at any point in the reaction on the contents of the reaction vessel). The esterification products are obtained in this process without major impurities and can often be used without further purification. |
