abstract A method of manufacturing a coloured filter on a solid state colour imaging device comprises the steps of forming a plurality of transparent electroconductive layers (9') electrically insulated from each other on a substrate (1) provided with a plurality of imaging elements, forming a coloured layer (10) on selected electroconductive layers (9') by electrodeposition from a solution containing a polymer and first colouring matter, and forming a coloured layer (11,12) on other selected electronconductive layers (9') by electrodeposition from a solution containing the polymer and second colouring matter of a different colour from the first colouring matter.
