abstract For the production of 3.3 or. 2,3-dimethylbutene and 2,3-dimethylbutadiene or for the simultaneous production of, 3,3-or. 2,3-dimethylbutene, 2,3-dimethylbutadiene and glycol or polyglycol-n-alkyl-3,3-or. 2,3-dimethylbutyl ether is reacted in a two-phase liquid system with alkali metal hydroxides in the presence of a glycol or polyglycol ether at temperatures of 100 to 250 ° C. with mono- or dichlorodimethylbutane. If a glycol or polyglycol monoalkyl ether is used as the glycol or polyglycol ether, the glycol or polyglycol-n-alkyl-3,3- or -2,3-dimethyl-butyl ether is obtained in addition to the olefin.
