There are quaternary ammonium compounds of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R 1 and R 2, identical or different, are an alkyl radical having 8 to 12 carbon atoms; R³ is an alkyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and A <-> is an anion of a carboxylic acid from the group acetic acid, propionic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, tartronic acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, maleic acid and fumaric acid; furthermore x is an integer or fractional number in the range of 1 to 2, and satisfies a method of producing the same. The compounds are suitable as disinfectants, in particular for baths which come into contact with metallic objects. |
