The reaction of 2-mercapto-benzthiazole or -benzimidazole with a, ß-unsaturated carboxylic acids in a strongly acidic reaction medium gives compounds of the formula wherein X is sulfur or NH, each R is independently H, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfonyl, phenyl, alkylphenyl, phenylalkyl, cycloalkyl, halogen, NO 2 , CN, COOH, COOalkyl, OH or an amino or carbamoyl group and R ', R 2 and R 3 independently of one another denote H, alkyl, haloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, carboxyalkyl, carboxyl, unsubstituted or substituted aryl or aralkyl or R' and R 2 together denote unbranched or branched alkylene which is represented by 1 or 2 Carboxyl groups can be substituted. |
