titleOfInvention Preparation of 1-substituted azetidin-3-ol and acid halid thereof
abstract A process for preparing 1-substituted azetidin-3-ol derivatives of formula: n<CHEM>n or an acid halide thereof, in which R<1> is an aryl methyl group; and R<2> is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, which comprisesn (a) reacting an epoxy halide of formula: n<CHEM>n in which Hal is a halogen atom, with a primary amine of formula:n R<1> - NH2 IIIn (b) cyclising the resulting addition product of formula: n<CHEM>n in an aqueous medium to form the acid halide of the compound of formula I, andn (c) when the free hydroxy compound of formula I is required, treating said acid halide with a base. n<??>The compounds are intermediates e.g. for the preparation of azetidine-3-carboxylic acid derivatives which exhibit plant growth regulant properties.
