abstract A process for the preparation of 17-haloethynyl steroids of the general partial formula <IMAGE> in which R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R2 is an alkyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an acyl radical with 1 to 7 carbon atoms, a trimethylsilyl radical, a 2-tetrahydropyranyl radical or a nitrate radical, X is a bromine atom or an iodine atom and V is a methylene group, an ethylene group, an ethylidene group or a vinylidene group is claimed, which is characterized in that an ethynyl steroid of the general sub-formula <IMAGE> in which R1, R2 and V have the abovementioned meaning , treated in an inert solvent with a brominating agent or iodinating agent in the presence of a silver salt.
