abstract A process for preparing an aqueous liquid fabric softening composition comprising making a hot molten mixture of a cationic fabric softener and a nonionic material with a low HLB, such as a fatty acid, fatty ester, fatty alcohol or lanolin, adding the molten mixture to water while still hot, mixing to form a dispersion of droplets in the water and thereafter adding an electrolyte such as a salt of lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium or aluminium. By forming the dispersion before adding the electrolyte, the viscosity of the end product is reduced and long term stability is improved.
