| abstract | An absorption product comprises a substantially cylindrical cartridge made of a strip material (13) comprising a first inner layer (25) and an intermediate layer (24) which merge at a twisted portion (19) at one end of the cartridge, and a third outer layer (27) which is connected to the first layer at another twisted portion (26) at the other end of the cartridge. The inner layer defines a closed cavity between the two twisted parts. The invention also relates to a method and an apparatus for manufacturing this product. The apparatus has a cylindrical mandrel having two coaxially spaced elements (12A, 12B) which can rotate individually. In one element, a coaxially displaceable member (20) is provided and forms a cavity (21) opening into the other element which is tubular to receive the axially displaceable member, with a space all around. A pressure member (23) is axially movable through this other mandrel member in the cavity. The method includes placing a cartridge (17) of strip material on the mandrel, rotating a short portion and a long portion (17A and 17B, respectively) of the cartridge to form a twisted intermediate portion (19). By pressing against this last twisted part, the long part (17B) of the cartridge is partially introduced into the shortest part (17A) of the cartridge, the longest part of the cartridge then being twisted between the part which has been drawn and inserted, and the rest of this part, which is then returned to the shorter part of the cartridge. |
