abstract | Optically uniform β-lactams of the formula <IMAGE> wherein R¹ is lower alkanoyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or benzoyl, R² is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkanoyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or cyano, R³ is hydrogen or lower alkyl, B lower alkylidene, lower cycloalkylidene or carbonyl and Z mean lower 2-alkenyl or 2,4-di (lower alkoxy) benzyl, and their optical antipodes can be obtained by reacting a salt of a carboxylic acid of the formula <IMAGE> in which R¹, R² and R³ have the above meaning, in the presence of a reactive derivative of an organic Sulfonic acid and a base with an optically uniform compound of the formula <IMAGE> in which B and Z are as defined above, or the optical antipode thereof is prepared and converted into antimicrobially active, optically uniform substances which contain a β-lactam ring. |
