titleOfInvention Process for determining whether a herpersvirus is in the virulent or latent state
abstract To test the virulence or latency of a herpes virus present in cellular tissue, or extract DNA from cells believed to be infected with a herpes virus, the DNA is digested using a restriction endonuclease, the resulting DNA fragments are separated according to their size, the separated DNA fragments are transferred to a nitrocellulose sheet, the separated DNA fragments are hybridized to make terminal fragments transported by notch and radioactively labeled with the viral genome of herpes, said hybridized DNA fragments are subjected to autoradiography and the spectrum of autoradiographic bands obtained is compared with the spectrum of autoradiographic bands produced by hybridization of a digested d restriction enzyme from cells infected with the same type of herpes virus in the virulent state with terminal fragments transported by notch and radioactively labeled with the gen ome of the herpes virus.
