abstract In the case of a ceramic bone substitute material with bioactive properties based on hydroxyapatites, the favorable biological properties of the hydroxyapatite ceramics and tricalcium phosphate ceramics are to be maintained, but at the same time a higher mechanical strength should be reproducibly adjustable. This is done in that the starting material consists of 70 to 95 wt .-% titanium oxide and the rest of hydroxyapatite powder and the pre-compressed mixture of the powders has been converted into a multi-phase polycrystalline ceramic in a heat treatment. In addition to rutile, the ceramic can contain β-whitlockite.
