abstract | Preparation of acrylates and methacrylates of formula (III) where R represents hydrogen or methyl, and where A represents unit (I) where x is a number from 0 to 4, or unit (II) . The new siloxane compounds can be copolymerized with (1) a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and (2) a polyethylenically unsaturated cross-linking agent. The resulting copolymers have a high oxygen permeability and a suitable hydrophilic property. They can be made so that they hardly absorb water. Contact lenses made from such copolymers can be worn, if desired, continuously for long periods of time. |
