abstract | The invention relates to a process for the preparation of impact-resistant polymers of vinylaromatics by continuous polymerization of a reaction mixture which contains 2 to 12% by weight, based on the mixture, of polybutadiene as rubber in a vinylaromatic monomer, in a cascade of 2 stirred tanks and 2 tower reactors, wherein the polymerization is carried out isothermally in the two stirred kettles under known shear conditions within the temperature range mentioned, and the polymerization in the tower reactors takes place isothermally or with an increasing temperature profile up to final conversions of 60 to 90% by weight, with subsequent separation of the product of value and customary removal of unreacted monomers and, if appropriate, solvents, the polymerization being carried out in the presence of graft-active peroxidic initiators and conversions of 16 to 19% by weight being established in the first stirred tank. |
