abstract New thiophene-2-carboxylic acid derivatives of the general formula wherein R in position 3 or 4 of the thiophene nucleus is hydrogen, methyl, chloro or bromine and R 1 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid or base addition salts have a strong inhibitory effect on thromboxane synthetase and are therefore for treatment of diseases caused by thromboxane A 2 . eg inflammation, high blood pressure, thrombus, brain scien. Asthma, angina pectoris, ischemic heart disease, fits, migraines and vascular complications from diabetes.
