abstract Certain 6,7-dihydro-8-limidazol-1-yp-1-oxo-1H,5H-benzo[ij]quinolizine-2-carboxylic acids are disclosed as potent antimicrobial agents with an unusual spectrum of activity. Esters, acyl chlorides, alkylaminoalkyl ester salts, salts of a nitrogen atom of the imidazole ring, and pharmaceutically acceptable carboxylate salts are also disclosed. Novel synthetic intermediates are also described.
