abstract The instant invention is directed to a glassy crystalline phosphate product, comprising at least one alkali metal oxide and phosphorus pentoxide having a molar ratio of greater than about 1.5:1 to less than 2.0:1. n The instant invention is also directed to a process for the production of a glassy crystalline phosphate product comprising at least one alkali metal oxide and phosphorus pentoxide having a molar ratio of greater than about 1.5:1 to less than 2.0:1, comprising the steps of:n (a) heating a mixture of at least one alkali metal salt and a source of phosphorus pentoxide until said mixture melts; and (b) quenching said melted mixture.
