abstract | The present invention relates to unsaturated polyester nresin compositions modified by addition of a copolymerisnable monomer and an epoxy resin to improve the physical nproperties of the composition. The copolymerisable monomner is one or more unsaturated organic compounds selected nfrom carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid anhydrides, amines, namides, alcohols and thiols and the composition also ncontains an epoxy resin. The copolymerisable monomer nmay be a mixture of the unsaturated organic compound and na vinyl monomer selected from styrene, methyl methacrylate nand vinyl toluene. The compositions after cure are particularnly suitable for producing glass-fibre reinforced polymers to nbe made into shapes eg by wet lay up without use of ncompression moulds, or as sheet moulding compounds for nconstruction of eg car bodies. |
