abstract | Process for treating a clay in order to remove the mineral impurities based on titanium, this process comprising the steps consisting in: (a) mixing said clay, in the form of an aqueous suspension having a content of clay solids d '' at least 25% by weight, with a titanium-based mineral impurities collector, a reducing agent and an activator comprising a water-soluble ferrous salt; (b) conditioning the mixture resulting from aqueous suspension of clay, collector, reducing agent and activator, at a solids content of at least 25% by weight, for a time sufficient to dissipate therein at least 25 horsepower-hours of energy per ton of solids; (c) subjecting the conditioned mixture to a foaming flotation treatment and removing the titanium-based impurities with the foam; and (d) recovering clay having a reduced content of titanium-based mineral impurities. |
