titleOfInvention Device for determining hydrogen flux
abstract A device (10) for determining a flow of hydrogen through a metal membrane comprises two parts, namely an upper cover (12) and a bottom (11), respectively. The upper cover (12), which is an iron or steel plate, is provided with an inner coating of palladium (13). The upper cover (12) together with the inner covering (13) constitutes a metal membrane which is selectively permeable to hydrogen. A metal oxide filler material (14) is arranged in the bottom (11) which consists of a metal, for example nickel or nickel-coated steel. The bottom (11) constitutes with the metal oxide filling (14) a metal / metal oxide cathode. The device is also provided with an electrolytic solution (17) which is in electrolytic communication with the metal membrane (12, 13) and with the metal / metal oxide cathode (11, 14). The device is adapted to be maintained in a short-circuited state either by a direct connection between the metal membrane and the metal / metal oxide cathode or by a connection to a current intensity measurement system having a low internal impedance, such as than a conventional ammeter.
