abstract |
A method of recovering IFN-beta from transformed bacteria includes: disrupting the cell membranes of the bacteria; solubilizing the IFN-beta of the exploded product in an aqueous medium with a solubilizing agent such as sodium dodecyl sulfate; extracting IFN-beta from the aqueous medium with 2-methyl-butanol, 2-butanol, or a mixture of the two under conditions which maintain phase separation between the aqueous medium and the extractant; and isolating IFN-beta from the extractant by, for example, precipitating IFN-beta from an aqueous buffer mixture of the extractant by lowering its pH. |
