titleOfInvention Prevention of self-ignition of hydrolysable metal phosphides
abstract The tendency towards self-ignition of hydrolyzable metal phosphide particles, such as those used in phosphine-forming pesticides, is achieved by impregnating the surface of the particles with a protective, i.e. Auto-ignition inhibiting amount of a hydrophobic ammonium salt of an organic acid with a hydrophobic aliphatic residue in the molecules inhibited. Preferred hydrophobizing substances are ammonium salts of saturated fatty acids or isofatty acids with 12 to 40, in particular 14 to 30, carbon atoms. The preferred substance is ammonium stearate. More than 10%, in particular 15 to 40%, ammonium stearate on metal phosphide, calculated to protect a technical magnesium phosphide against self-ignition, is used.
