titleOfInvention Copolymers and their use in hair treatment compositions
abstract 1. A copolymer obtained by free-radical copolymerization of an alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, a neutral nitrogen-containing water-soluble monomer, a monomer containing cationic groups, and an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3 or 4 carbon atoms, characterized in that it is obtained by free-radical copolymerization of a) 20 to 75% by weight of ethyl, n-butyl, tert.-butyl or lauryl acrylate or methacrylate or mixtures thereof, b) 5 to 50% by weight of N-vinylpyrrolidone, N-vinylcaprolactam or mixtures thereof, c) 1 to 25% by weight of N-vinylimidazole, 1-vinyl-2-methylimidazole or mixtures thereof, and d) 1 to 25% by weight of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and has a Fikentscher K value of from 15 to 75, measured in ethanol at 25 degrees C.
