abstract |
The invention provides a method for preventing polymer scale build-up on the reactor walls, in particular, in the suspension or emulsion polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer effective even in the cases where the polymerization initator is a monomer-soluble organic peroxide having a relatively high solubility in water which hitherto has been not used due to the difficulty in preventing polymer scale build-up despite the superior quality of the polymer product obtained therewith. The method comprises coating the reactor walls in advance with an aqueous coating composition comprising (t) an organic dye of sulfonic or carboxylic acid type in the form of an alkali metal or ammonium salt and (II) an aqueous colloidal dispersion of an inorganic material and then drying the coated surface. |
