titleOfInvention Process for the production of S-(carboxymethyl)-R-cysteine and S-(carboxymethyl)-S-cysteine
abstract The invention relates to a process for the production of S- (carboxymethyl) - (R) -cysteine and S- (carboxymethyl) - (S) -cysteine from a mixture of the two enantiomers. The mixture to be separated is dissolved in water in the presence of sufficient ammonia that the solution of the ammonium salts formed has a pH between 6 and 9. Then a state of supersaturation is brought about in the solution of the ammonium salts, by addition of seed crystals of the ammonium salt of one of the two enantiomers - if the starting mixture contains one of the two enantiomers in excess, of the ammonium salt of this enantiomer - the ammonium salt of one of the two enantiomers is crystallized and separated. Then, by adding seed crystals of the ammonium salt of the respective other enantiomer to the remaining mother liquor of the ammonium salt of this enantiomer, it is also crystallized and separated. Finally, the respective S- (carboxymethyl) cysteine is released from the two ammonium salts.
