This process according to which at least one beam of light emitted by one or more lasers is sent into a gas mixture containing uranium 235 and uranium 238 compounds to selectively excite uranium 235 or uranium 238 compounds , is characterized in that the uranium 235 and uranium 238 compounds of the gas mixture have the formula: UO2XYBn, in which X and Y are mineral or organic monovalent anions, identical or different, B is a strong organic base of Lewis and n is a number at most equal to 3. Application to the enrichment of uranium for nuclear fuels.
