The invention relates to an agent for preventing or eliminating foam, especially in aqueous solutions. The active substances are polyoxyalkylene compounds which contain oxyalkylene groups with 4 to 16 carbon atoms and of the formula correspond, where the substituents and indices have the following meaning: R 1 = z-valued hydrocarbon residue or, if z = 1, a hydrogen residue, R 2 = hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, -CONHR 3 -, or -Rest, at most % of all residues R 2 may be hydrogen residues, R 3 = monovalent hydrocarbon radical, R 4 = straight-chain alkyl radical with an average of 4 to 16 carbon atoms or methyl or hydrogen radical, but at most 90 mol% of the radicals R 4 may be methyl or hydrogen radical, n = integer ≧ 2, z = integer from 1 to 3. |
