abstract Compounds of the formulan whereinn X is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, or a pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof are antihypotonically effective. n Moreover, ergotanilides of the formulan n C 9 C 10 is a C-C single or C=C double bond, R 2 is hydrogen, chlorine, or bromine, R 6 is C 1-4 alkyl, and n X is H, C 1-4 alkyl, C 1- 4 alkoxy, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, NH 2 , NHR' (R' = C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 acyl), NR'R" (R' = C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 acyl; R" = C 1-4 saturated or unsaturated heterocyclic ring wherein a CH 2 - or CH-group thereof can be substituted by N, 0, or S), orSR" (R'" = C 1-4 alkyl or phenyl), n can be prepared by reacting the corresponding lysergic acid methyl esters or lysergic acid ethyl esters with a corresponding dimethylaluminum anilide in an inert solvent.
