abstract Novel deazapurine derivatives of the formula:n whereinn R 1 is C 1-18 alkyl which may be substituted with di-C 1-3 alkyl amino; C 1-18 alkenyl; C 3-8 cyloalkyl; C 5-8 cycloalkenyl; C 7-13 aralkyl which may be substituted with C 1-4 alkoxy, C 1-4 alkanoyl, C 2-4 alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxy, amino, nitro, trifluoromethyl or C 1-4 alkanoylamido; or C 6-10 aryl and R 2 is hydrogen or C 7-13 aralkyl or, R 1 and R 2 , taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom, form a piperidine ring, and salt thereof are selectively taken up by tumor cells and have antitumor activity.
