abstract New dihalogenated steroids of the formula wherein X is methylene or an α-oriented methyl together with a hydrogen atom and R is an alkyl having at most 6 carbon atoms, and their 1,2-dehydro derivatives, which can be prepared by conventional methods, have a high anti-inflammatory effect and can be used as anti-inflammatory agents . They also serve as valuable intermediates for the production of anti-inflammatory, high-impact polyhalogenated corticosteroids.
