titleOfInvention | EMULSIFIING ADDITIVE FOR OIL-BASED DRILLING FLUIDS AND METHOD. |
abstract | Stabilization of oil continuous phase well fluids, particularly to oil base drilling fluids, against contamination with water-soluble alkaline earth salts such as calcium chloride and lignosulfonate contaminants. Stabilization is accomplished by the addition of a sulfonamide additive which is the product of the reaction of a sulfonic acid chloride and a water soluble amine selected from the group consisting of alkylated amines and dialcohol amines. The additive controls the water wettable solids in an oil based well fluid in the presence of alkaline earth salts and lignosulfonate contaminants for extended periods at temperatures over 700<o>F, keeping such solids in the oil-wet state. |
