Compounds of the general formula n nwherein X¹ is a group R¹O and X² is a group R²O, or one of X¹ nand X² is a group R⁴ and the other is hydroxy, wherein, nR¹, R², R³ and R⁴ are the same or different and each nrepresent hydrogen or a C₁₋₄ alkyl group; nPh is a phenyl group, optionally substituted by one or nmore groups independently selected from halo nitro; and nY is a group of formula n nor a group of formula n nor a group of formula n-NH-CH₂-CO-; nand basic salts thereof. These compounds have an advanntageous enkephalinase inhibitory activity which renders the ncompounds useful in medical therapy, eg. to prolong and/or npotentiate in a mammal, the effects of endogenous or nexogenous enkephalins. The latter includes synthetic ennkephalin analogues. |
