titleOfInvention | NOT-A, NOT-B HEPATITISVIRUS. |
abstract | Recently discovered particles have been found to be associated with non A and non B hepatitis. The first particle resembles a togavirus. It has a diameter of 50-60 nm with an individual spherical nucleus of about 40 nm in diameter, and loses its infectious capacity on tissue culture by heating to 25 C in aqueous suspension or by exposure to ether. The second particle looks like an enterovirus. It is spherical, has a diameter of about 27 nm, has a buoyancy density of 1.36 in isopycnic gradient-density centrifugation with cesium chloride, loses its infectious capacity only during prolonged heating at high temperatures. and is not sensitive to ether. This particle has no envelope. Both particles can be grown in the air or recovered from body fluids or tissues for use in immunoassays and vaccines. Immunoassays can be used to detect particles, particle antigens or particles antibodies. |
