abstract Phenylalkyloxirane carboxylic acids of the general formula I <IMAGE> wherein R<1> denotes a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group or a trifluoromethyl group, R<2> has one of the meanings of R<1>, A denotes a single bond, a -CH(R<6>)-CH(R<7>)-group, a CH(R<6>)-CH(R<7>)-CH(R<8>)-group or a -CH(R<6>)-CH(R<7>)-CH(R<8>)-CH(R<9>)-group, R<5> denotes a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and one of the substituents R<3>, R<4>, R<6>, R<7>, R<8> or R<9> represents a lower alkyl group and the others denote hydrogen atoms, and the salts of the carboxylic acids are new compounds having a hypoglycaemic action. A process for their preparation and a new process for the preparation of the intermediate products is described.
