abstract | Synergistic antimycotic pharmaceutical compositions comprising nystatin and 2-lower alkyl-1,4-naphthoquinone or its adduct mixed with suitable inert pharmaceutical carriers. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the above compositions by mixing the active ingredients with suitable inert supports. It is preferable to use 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone or its adduct of sodium bisulfite. The ratio of active ingredients is preferably 20,000 to 100,000 IU of nystatin per 1 mg of 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone sodium bisulfite. The compositions have a strong synergistic activity in the treatment of infections caused by Candida albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis and are also active against persistent pain. The compositions can be presented in a form suitable for external use, such as suppositories, aerosol, gel or vaginal tablets. |
