abstract Chemical intermediates useful in the production of herbicidal sulfonylureas have the general formulan wherein R is CF 3 , CHF 2 , CH 2 CF 3 or CF 2 CHFG, where G is F, Cl, Br or CF 3 ;n A is O or S(O) n , where n is 0, 1 or 2; R 1 is H, F, Cl, Br or CH 3 ; and L is Cl, NH 2 , NCO or NCS. n The novel compounds can be made by conventional processes, e.g. chlorosulfonation of the appropriately substituted starting material followed by reaction with ammonia to form the sulfonamide and conversion to the isocyanate with phosgene.
