The stain solution which comprises azures, Methylene Blue and eosin dye in methanol solution, is stabilized by the addition thereto of a stabilizing amount of a combination of dimethylamine hydrochloride and a second amine of the formula R 2 NH 2 + Cl - or R 3 NH + Cl - where R is ethyl, n-propyl or n-butyl.
