Process for the preparation of dialkyl esters of maleic acid |
abstract |
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of maleic dialkyl esters <IMAGE> where R = CH3, C2H5 or C3H7, by esterification of maleic acid or maleic anhydride or their mixtures with aliphatic alcohols ROH, where R has the meaning just mentioned, in the presence of a catalyst. The esterification is carried out at a pressure of 1 to 20 bar, at a temperature which is 60 to 100 ° C above the boiling point of the alcohol used. This is used in an excess of up to 300%. |
